Safer summer
Summer is a great time to get outside, stay active and enjoy everything Lancashire has to offer. While it’s a season full of fun, it’s also important that we all take simple steps to stay safe and well. From protecting yourself in the sun and staying hydrated, to keeping safe around water and looking out for family, friends and others in your community, a little awareness can make a big difference.
Across Lancashire, we’re sharing advice, support and local initiatives to help everyone enjoy the summer safely. By taking care of ourselves and each other, we can all play a part in making this a safe, healthy and happy summer for everyone.
Staying safe in warmer weather
We have lots of tips to help you look after yourself and loved ones in hot weather, including:
wearing a hat
keeping hydrated
checking on vulnerable people
Weather forecasts from the Met Office can help you prepare for hot weather. There is also advice about keeping pets safe in the heat on the Met Office website. The Child Accident Prevention Trust website has tips on keeping children safe this summer.

Staying safe around water
Summer is a lovely time to get out in Lancashire with lots of people opting for days out near open water but its important to remember the dangers.
The RNLI website has information to help you stay safe, including advice about what to do in an emergency. There is also advice to help parents keep their children safe around water.
Sadly, people drown in open water in Lancashire every year. Keep your children where you can see them when they are near lakes, ponds, rivers and reservoirs. Help make sure your loved ones know the risks of swimming in open water with these water safety tips (Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service).
Remember, it's possible to drown in very shallow water. Always supervise children around paddling pools and empty pools when not in use.
Road safety in summer
There is so much to see and do across Lancashire and summer is the perfect time for a drive out to discover a new place. Our Road Safety team have lots of tips to ensure your journeys run smoothly.
