Pride in our places

Lancashire is home to some of the most diverse and distinctive places in England. From the Forest of Bowland and the Ribble Valley to Morecambe Bay, our market towns, historic high streets and thriving communities, there is a huge amount to value, enjoy and protect.

Looking after Lancashire an ongoing commitment. That is why we invest in the roads, transport networks, countryside, parks and public spaces that help keep Lancashire moving and make it a great place to live, work, visit and spend time.

Every day, council services, local partners, community groups and volunteers work together to make Lancashire a place people can be proud of. From maintaining roads, pavements, drainage, streetlights,  signs, grass and weeds in key locations through our Highways service, to protecting our natural environment through the Countryside Service. Or supporting learning and culture through our libraries and museums whilst helping residents reduce waste through our recycling and reuse facilities. A wide range of activity takes place year-round to keep communities safe, welcoming and well cared for.

While each improvement may seem small on its own, together they help create attractive places where people want to live, work and visit.

Keeping Lancashire looking its best is a shared responsibility. Through the Our Lancashire Civic Pride Charter, we are encouraging residents, businesses, community groups and organisations to work together to care for local places and strengthen pride in our communities.

Together, we're making visible improvements that residents can see and experience in the places that matter most to them. You can keep up to date with local improvements and maintenance activity on our Facebook page or our dedicated Highways Facebook page.

Lancashire has a rich history and a bright future.

Our county has helped shape the world through industry, science, manufacturing, creativity and innovation. Today, that heritage continues to inspire a new generation of artists, businesses, entrepreneurs and community leaders.

Our libraries, museums, archives and historic landmarks help preserve Lancashire's story and share it with future generations. From local history collections and heritage projects to community exhibitions and cultural events, there are many ways to explore the people and places that have shaped our county.

The county's visitor economy continues to grow through the work of Marketing Lancashire and Visit Lancashire, showcasing our heritage, food, countryside, coast, attractions and events to millions of visitors every year.

Lancashire regularly welcomes major sporting and cultural events that bring communities together and put the county on the national and international stage. The Tour of Britain will be welcomed in Lancashire in 2026, and the Tour de France will pass through Lancashire in 2027, showcasing our towns, villages and countryside to a global audience.

Together, these events, attractions and investments help celebrate Lancashire's identity, strengthen local pride and inspire confidence in our future.

One of Lancashire's greatest strengths is its people.

Across the county, thousands of residents give their time to help others, support local groups, protect community spaces and make a difference where they live. Their contribution helps strengthen communities and improve lives every day.

Community champions and volunteers

We celebrate the individuals, groups and organisations who go above and beyond to support their communities. Through our news channels, social media and the Pride in Lancashire Awards, we are highlighting the people whose actions make Lancashire a better place for everyone.

Volunteers are at the heart of many Lancashire communities. Whether supporting residents who need extra help, preserving our local heritage, organising events or caring for local environments, their contribution is invaluable.

Find volunteering opportunities through the Lancashire Volunteer Partnership

If you know someone, or an organisation that goes above and beyond and displays civic pride, you can nominate them for a Pride in Lancashire Award

Alongside maintaining the places we already value, we are also supporting major investment and regeneration projects that will help shape Lancashire's future.

Projects such as Eden Project Morecambe have the potential to attract visitors, create jobs and showcase Lancashire to new audiences while celebrating the area's unique environment, heritage and culture.
