Financial support for carers

There is financial support available to help you manage the extra costs that can come with caring for someone.

Benefits and financial support if you are disabled

Information about disability benefits, including Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Attendance Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance and more.

Benefits you may be able to claim

You may be able to claim one or more of these benefits:

  • Carer's Allowance – if you spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone.
  • Carer's Credit – national insurance credit if you care for someone for at least 20 hours a week.
  • Universal Credit – you may be eligible for a carer element if you care for someone for 35 hours a week or more.
  • Pension Credit – extra money to help with living costs if you are of State Pension age and on a low income.
  • Attendance Allowance – for people over State Pension age who have care needs because of a disability or long-term health condition.
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) – for people aged 16 to State Pension age with a long-term health condition or disability.

The amount you get and how these benefits interact will depend on your personal circumstances.
