Road closure application

If you need a temporary traffic regulation order, you must give Lancashire County Council 12 weeks’ advance notice so we can process and prepare the order.

Charges

  • We will invoice applicants for preparing the temporary closure order.

  • The charge is £801 plus the cost of advertising the order. Advertising costs can bring the total to around £1,800.

  • You must supply a purchase order number. The final cost will be invoiced to you.

Site notice and road signs

  • Applicants must put up an information sign at the site to give the public advance warning of the closure.

  • The design of these signs must be agreed with Lancashire County Council.

  • Signs must be in place ten days before the road closure starts.

  • Applicants are responsible for putting up, maintaining, and removing all road closure and diversion signs.

  • The road must stay open for pedestrians and access to properties.

  • All statutory public notices about the closure must be removed when the work is finished.

  • Statutory undertakers must arrange suitable media publicity before the road closure.

Legal notes

All applicants must indemnify the county council against any third party claims and any extra costs arising from the closure, including those associated with the diversion of any public and school transport routes.

Local businesses must be contacted individually to assess what problems they may have and it may be necessary for you to produce information signs for this purpose.

All residents likely to be affected must also be notified.
