Course overview

This course is designed for managers and frontline supervisors managing in-house teams or contractors whilst working on the highways

Course aim

To provide employees working within Lancashire Highways Services with the required knowledge and practical skills essential for managing/supervising working on the highways and verges.

Learning outcomes

  • The learners will cover the following subject areas as listed below:

  • Examine the risks when working on high-speed dual and single carriage ways

  • Identify and employ the measures required to maximise personal health and safety and that of other highway users

  • Identify and assess situations that are likely to cause danger or serious inconvenience to users of public areas; or harm or danger to any employee

  • Explore service specific hazards and risks – mitigation and management

  • Devise a dynamic risk assessment.

  • Assess best practice case studies – learning from others in the sector

  • Apply the national Code of practice that governs safe working on the highway, in your work environment
