Young readers
Activities
Many of our libraries have regular events for children and young people.
For pre-school children there are:
Baby Bounce and Rhyme – for babies up to around 18 months
Toddler Rhyme Time – sing-along songs and rhymes for babies and toddlers
Storytime – for all pre-school children and their parents or carers
Library Explorers
Library Explorers encourages children under 4 years old to visit the library, borrow books and attend events. They are rewarded with stickers for their visits.
Little Steps
Our award winning children's reading initiative Little Steps is aimed at children under 5 and their families. It supports personal, social and emotional development. It helps their communication, mental health, well-being and physical activity.
Lancashire Reading Trail
The Lancashire Reading Trail rewards readers of all levels. Children follow a map through an enchanted Lancashire and collect special cards and characters along the way. It is designed to encourage children (up to age 12) to read more.
Reading Heroes
Reading Heroes challenges children to read 5 books during the summer holidays and complete a series of fun tasks, in order to win prizes and keep reading throughout the holidays. Children can sign up for free at their local library. Find out more on our Reading Heroes webpage.
