Lead Local Flood Authority planning application advice service

You can get paid advice from the Lead Local Flood Authority about managing surface water and designing sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) for major development proposals.

Why use this service

• Identify potential surface water issues with your proposed development early

• Get advice on the surface water parts of your flood risk assessment and drainage strategy

• Receive guidance to help you comply with national policy, guidance, and standards, including the National Standards for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)

• Where needed, get advice about ordinary watercourse consent requirements for your development

When to use this service

• Before submitting a major planning application with surface water drainage

• To address issues raised by the Lead Local Flood Authority on live applications, for example if your proposal has received an objection about surface water flood risk or drainage

• To help with the discharge of conditions recommended by the Lead Local Flood Authority

Using this service helps you submit a stronger application and reduces the risk of an objection from the Lead Local Flood Authority.

How to use the service

• Complete the application form and prepare your supporting evidence

• Email your application and evidence to suds@lancashire.gov.uk or send them by post

• If your application is valid, you will receive an invoice for payment

• After payment, we will contact you to arrange a technical meeting

• Following the meeting, we will send written advice summarising the key points within the timescales set out in our Terms of Service
