Lancashire Archives roofing works
Notice to all Archives visitors: Changes to visitor access to Lancashire Archives, September 2026 to Summer 2027
The Lancashire Archives and Local History building on Bow Lane, Preston, will be undergoing major roofing works over the next year.
The following access changes will apply for Lancashire Archives visitors:
From Monday 7 September the car park at Lancashire Archives will be closed. It will be closed until summer 2027.
Lancashire Archives will be temporarily shut from Thursday 1 October to Wednesday 7 October inclusive to allow for internal work.
Any research visitors to Lancashire Archives must book in advance from 8 October 2026 onwards to view collections in the Searchroom: https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/archives/visit-us/opening-times-and-your-visit/
The 12-month project will replace the roof at the purpose-built 1975 building and is vital to protect the future delivery of the archives and local history service.
We appreciate that changes to normal access arrangements may be inconvenient for some visitors and we thank you for your patience.
For visitors arriving by car, please plan ahead for your visit and use local alternatives. There are nearby parking options at:
Park and ride - Lancashire County Council
Car Park & Parking in Preston Centre - Fishergate
Preston Railway Station Parking - Avanti West Coast
Normal arrangements for transferring and depositing collections remain in place.
